Issue #1 and Angry Mob Update
11 months ago – Mon, May 05, 2025 at 09:00:06 PM

Hi all you wonderful (angry and not so angry) legends. We wanted to give you a quick update on a few things.

Item 1 – Fulfilment Update

Issue #1 and campaign rewards are continuing to ship to backers. Tracking is being sent out with each shipment. We really appreciate your patience with this.

The exclusive hard cover edition is due to be delivered to our warehouse within the next 10-14 days. We will be shipping those out immediately.

Please keep in mind there are over 11,000 orders and more than 40,000 items to ship. We have added more warehouse staff and an extra fulfilment centre to get everything out as quickly as possible.

Item 2 – Subscriptions

Subscriptions are being launched later this month. There will be digital, softcover and hardcover options. The digital option will include access to the archive. Both the softcover and hardcover subscribers will get the digital subscription for free. All Mobsters will get the $20 discount on the soft and hardcover options.

We are providing free subscriptions for any legacy subscribers of the previous company that did not receive all the issues they had previously paid for. So, if you were still owed 5 issues you will get the next 5 issues for free. An email will be going out to these old subscribers soon.

Issue 2 is almost complete and scheduled to be released in July.

Item 3 – The Angry Mob Stuff

The team has been so energized by the response to the Angry Mob idea and we are working out the best way to give you all a platform to connect with each other and the team.

I originally said that you would get perks for the next 12 months but on reflection we think this would be better as a lifelong club that gives you all, the people who really saved Heavy Metal, benefits for life.

Our initial thoughts, some of this may change;

  • We think it should be a closed group, only open to you wonderful Issue #1 Kickstarter backers until you vote to decide otherwise.
  • All of you are included in the Angry Mob but you can, of course, opt out. There was some confusion that it was only for those who were publicly angry, that was never the intention. The name was having a bit of fun with you and poking fun at us for making you angry. We want you all in and we are going to treat you like family, so you are never angry at us again (yeah right!).
  • Emails will go out with more details about the Mob, how you can claim the initial benefits etc. We are also figuring out the best way present the logo submissions to the Mob for voting. We will also have some artists starting on logo options and mascot ideas this week.
  • The Mob will get early access, first looks, first offers and behind the scenes info, invites to events, free shit, discounts, exclusive merchandise and products, the ability to vote on things we do and more…for life, or until the world ends.
  • It would be great to get you all some sort of membership card, dogtag, challenge coin, keychain….open to Mob suggestions here. This item would be a collectible in its own right but also be marked with your Mobster number. We could also use this to provide freebies and special treatment if you turn up at conventions or events we are at and show your “badge”.
  • Thinking every issue of the mag should have some sort of shout out to the Angry Mob. Maybe even an ongoing strip.
  • The team is working on the Angry Mob Issue #2 variant cover. We will let you guys see the process as we select the artist, see their rough sketches etc.
  • Basically, we would love this small, closed group of insiders, to participate in what Heavy Metal does moving forward and to help us be the Heavy Metal you want us to be. In exchange for that we will aim to spoil you rotten and give you the inside running on all things Metal.
  • Together we can make this a real community that rewards you for being the people that brought Heavy Metal back to life.
  • Please keep your feedback and ideas coming, it is really helping us to pull this together.

More to come. Stay Angry.

P.S. If you’re still angry at us that’s ok, we love you anyway.

Thank You Mobsters, You Really Rock

Your response has been overwhelming and the team is feeling more energized than ever.

Onto really pressing matters - I think we need an Angry Mob logo, considering you lot are probably going to want hats, shirts, European bum bags etc etc. We will offer this stuff to you at cost and of course it will be optional. Might be a great way to recognize a fellow Angry person in the street.

So, would people from this amazing community like to submit logo options and the rest of you heathens vote on it? We will buy the winning logo for $1000 and build a small shrine to the victor. Let us know your thoughts.

Or alternatively if this idea makes you angry, which will come as no surprise, would you like one of our incredibly talented Heavy Metal artists to mock some up for you all to see?

We will also need some Mob rules, throw some suggestions at us. I'm thinking no one gets into the mob now. If you weren't part of this Kickstarter you cannot get in. Or should we let you pass membership down to your first born when you reach Valhalla?

Anyway, you guys really are special. Let's make the Angry Mob something that lasts and unites us all. We need you to help us get this right and make Heavy Metal great again (can't believe I said that).

Heavy Metal

Slaves to the Mob.

So Here’s What We’re Gonna Do…
11 months ago – Fri, May 02, 2025 at 11:32:56 PM

Some of you are angry. Really angry. And all of you, I’m sure, are disappointed. And honestly? Fair enough.

Heavy Metal #1 was on comic store shelves before it showed up in your mailbox. That sucks—we know. It doesn’t make us scam artists or evil masterminds. It makes us a small team who got overwhelmed, ran into uncontrollable delays, and messed up our rollout. That’s on us.

But here’s the thing: we want to make this right. So… from here in in we’re officially naming you The Angry Mob—and you’re getting the royal treatment.

Starting now, you’re in an exclusive club. For the next 12 months, Angry Mob members will get bonuses, weird perks, and stuff we’ll probably regret offering. First up?

A “WE F*CKED UP” Limited Edition Issue #2 Variant – Just for you. For FREE. The full damn magazine. You’ll only pay shipping, and it’ll be the most bonkers, offensive, absolutely-not-suitable-for-shelves cover we’ve ever done. We’ll do a couple variants, randomly assigned, and any leftovers? Destroyed. These will never be for sale in stores, online, anywhere. Only Mob members get one.

Still mad? Fair.

So here’s more:

A voucher to use in our soon-to-be-overhauled Heavy Metal store
We’re adding rare vinyl's, collectibles, books, toys, games, gear, and other beautifully bizarre stuff from creators around the world. You’ll get first crack at a lot of it.

Random Acts of Redemption
Every few months, we’ll surprise Angry Mob members with exclusive merch, early access, discounts, weird bonuses—whatever we can come up with that hurts us and helps you.

$20 off the new annual subscription, soft cover and hard cover.
Launching soon. Yours if you want it.

Look, if you went full rage mode on us, we get it. If you stayed critical but kind? We see you. If you were supportive through all this? You’re getting on the Angry Mob VIP sublist. You beautiful unicorns.  If you were rude or offensive then I’m afraid we don’t really want you as part of the crew.

Emails are coming soon with details. You can stay mad (and we’ll still ship your rewards), or you can jump on this Heavy Metal ride and help us bring this beast back to life.

We f*cked up. But we’re going to make damn sure being part of the Angry Mob turns out to be the best mistake we ever made.

Stay loud,
The Heavy Metal Team

Backer Update: We Hear You, and We’re Committed to Making This Right
11 months ago – Thu, May 01, 2025 at 11:37:33 PM

To our incredible backers,

First and foremost, we want to thank you—truly—for your support, your patience, and your passion.

Some of you have been rightfully upset to see Heavy Metal #1 appearing in comic stores before it landed in your mailbox. We’ve heard your concerns, and we want to speak openly about the situation with Issue #1 fulfillment. This was never the experience we intended for you. We committed to backers—our most loyal supporters— that they would receive their copies before anyone else. And while we did begin shipping your rewards before the book hit stores, the scale of this campaign, combined with unforeseen delays, meant we were unable to meet that commitment across the board. For that, we sincerely apologize.

This Kickstarter was far larger than we anticipated—with more than 11,000 individual orders and over 40,000 items to fulfill. While that’s an incredible milestone, it also created a significant logistical challenge. Despite these hurdles, shipping is now well underway, and we’re dispatching hundreds of orders every single day. By the end of next week, we expect to have fulfilled over 5,000 backer orders.

We want to be clear: your items are on the way. Every package is being packed and processed with care.

For those awaiting the exclusive Kickstarter hardcover editions—these are still in print and will be the final items to reach our warehouse. We know many of you are especially excited for these, and we’re working hard to accelerate their fulfillment. Expect a dedicated update on hardcover shipping timelines very soon.

We also want to remind you that many of the items you backed for—including variant covers and collectibles—are Kickstarter exclusives that will never be available in stores. These were made for you and only you, and we remain committed to delivering them with the quality and care they deserve.

To ensure better communication going forward, we’ll be providing more regular updates here on Kickstarter. And, because we want to hear from you directly, we’ll also be holding a Heavy Metal Town Hall—a live virtual session where you can meet the team, ask questions, and share your thoughts. Details on that will follow in the next few days.

We understand your frustration, and we share it. But please know: our focus remains fixed on delivering the best version of Heavy Metal Magazine to the people who helped bring it back—you.

We’re grateful for your support, and we’re working as fast as we can to get every last package out the door.

Thank you again,

Marshall Lees
